I ASKED GOD

叶えられた祈り

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve,
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.
大きなことを成し遂げるために　強さを与えてほしいと、神に求めたのに
私は弱さを与えられた　神に従う謙虚を学ぶようにと

I asked for health, that I might do greater things,
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.
より偉大なことが出来るように　健康を求めたのに
私は病気を与えられた　もっと善いことができるようにと

I asked for riches, that I might be happy,
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
幸せになれるように　富を求めたのに
私は貧困を与えられた　賢明になれるようにと

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men,
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
世の中の賞賛を得ようとして　権力を求めたのに
私は弱さを与えられた　神の手助けを望むようにと

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life,
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
人生を楽しめるように　あらゆるものを求めたのに
私は命を与えられた　あらゆることを喜べるようにと

I got nothing I asked for, but everything I had hoped for.
求めたものはひとつとして与えられなかったが
私の願いはすべて聞き届けられた

Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
神の意に添わぬものばかりを望んだにもかかわらず
心の中の言い表わせない祈りはすべて叶えられた

I am among men most richly blessed.
私はあらゆる人の中で
もっとも豊かに祝福(恵み)を受けたのだ
